Scarce Small-Sized Stoneware Chicken Waterer with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1885, cylindrical form with button-shaped finial and applied watering trough, decorated around the shoulder with two sweeping floral motifs. Cobalt leaf decoration above trough. Cobalt swag decoration surrounding opening. Cobalt highlight to finial. This example includes an unusual triangular shape to the applied watering trough. This waterer survives in rarely-found excellent, essentially as-made condition with some fry to cobalt. Most examples of this form have damage to the opening and/or finial. H 7 1/2".
