Exceptional Six-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Oversized Chicken Decoration, NY State origin, circa 1875, large-sized, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a very large slip-trailed design of a chicken with comb and well-detailed body, standing atop a stylized ground. Among the largest representations of a chicken that we have seen on a piece of New York state stoneware. A striking figural design. Some fry to cobalt. A 6 3/4" crack from rim on reverse. H 13 1/8".
