Outstanding Four-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Tornado Decoration, Stamped "WH FARRAR / GEDDES. N.Y.", circa 1860, ovoid jug with tapered spout, decorated with a large slip-trailed tornado design, lavishly embellished with cobalt spots and curved strokes throughout. Slip-trailed to the left with a large "4" decorated on the interior with spots. Shoulder decorated with unusual incised and cobalt-highlighted wavy line design. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. A striking example of Farrar slip-trailed decoration. Very nice condition with a chip to interior of spout, a small in-the-firing iron ping to front, and a 1 1/8" hairline to lower handle terminal.
