Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "H. SMITH & Co", Alexandria, VA origin, circa 1825, thin-walled, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied tab handles, decorated on the front with a stem extending from one handle bearing large leaves and culminating in a flower blossoms. Reverse decorated with a series of chain links underscored by floral motifs. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Large chips to left handle. Two adjacent chips to right handle. Several base chips. An approximately 5" curving hairline from rim on front. A smooth in-the-firing flake to rim on front.
