Rare Five-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Large Cobalt Fish Decoration, Stamped "W. HART / OGDENSBURGH", NY State origin, circa 1860, large-sized, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a fish, featuring a drooping mouth, striped gill, swag-and-spot-decorated body, and a dorsal fin composed of graduated trails. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A folky representation of a prized stoneware motif. Two in-the-firing iron pings to front. A surface flake to left handle. A few small iron pings to reverse. A 4 3/4" in-the-firing separation descending from interior of rim. H 12 3/4".
