Two Redware Jars with Manganese Tulip Decoration, One Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO'", PA origin, circa 1850-1880, three and four gallon ovoid jars, each with tooled shoulders, flattened rims, and applied lug handles, decorated with brushed manganese tulip motifs on the front and reverse. Interiors of jars covered in a lead-and-manganese glaze. Three-gallon jar impressed with John Bell maker's mark. Four-gallon jar unsigned. Three-gallon jar with large reglued section including a crack extending off from it, exfoliation to exterior and interior surface, traces of paint to rim, and white residue to interior. Four-gallon jar with significant cracks. exfoliation, and a rim chip, the shoulder and midsection sure with a wire and metal band.
