Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "B.C. MILBURN / ALEXA", Alexandria, VA origin, circa 1850, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, flared collar, and applied tab handles, decorated on the front with a top-to-bottom flowering plant design featuring fern-shaped blossoms to the left and right and an unusual bluebell-shaped blossom at the center. Reverse decorated with large floral motif including additional bluebell motifs. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A 7/8" rim chip. A 2" in-the-firing surface line on left side of jar, not visible on interior. A long horizontal line to base on front, not visible on interior. Shallow in-the-firing base wear.
