Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, attributed to Samuel Wilson, Henrico County, VA, circa 1820, ovoid jar with heavily-tooled shoulder, flattened tab handles, and raised collar with semi-rounded rim; decorated on one side with a stylized foliate motif and on the opposite side with a brushed cobalt circle surrounding a two-gallon capacity mark. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Losses to one handle. Chips to half of opposite handle. Several rim chips. Tight spider lines on underside, including one line that extends a few inches up base of jar. A 1 1/4" surface flake near base of jar. Some additional light surface wear around jar's widest point. A 2 1/4" salt drip to side of jar.
