Scarce Six-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "E & L P NORTON / BENNINGTON VT.", circa 1870, ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird perched on a floral spray. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Exceptional size with strong decoration. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a minor, in-the-firing surface flake at base on reverse, measuring 1/2".
