Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "W. ROBERTS BINGHAMTON. N.Y", circa 1875, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird with spotted body, perched on a flowering branch. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A shallow 1 1/2" chip to interior of rim. A 3" crack on underside, extending as a long curved crack onto reverse.
