Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BURGER / ROCHESTER", NY State origin, circa 1860, ovoid jug with semi-squared spout, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a daisy plant featuring a large blossom, a smaller, partially-opened blossom, and shaded leaves at the base. Superb detail throughout, including spotted and striped detail to the central blossom and alternating cobalt-highlighted and hollow patterning to opening blossom. Slip-trailed "3." above. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Fry to "3." and some lesser fry to large blossom. Some staining to surface of jug.
