Rare Alkaline-Glazed Double-Handled Stoneware Jar, Stamped "JBL", Jesse Bradford Long, Crawford County, GA, late 19th or early 20th century, ovoid jar with flared rim and two small strap handles, the surface covered in a mottled brown glaze. Impressed on handle with the initials, "JBL", for Crawford County, GA potter, Jesse maker's mark on handle. According to John Burrison's Roots of a Region: Southern Folk Culture, Long, who was in his fifties when the Civil War broke out, served as a home guard captain and produced chamberpots and other wares for Confederate hospitals. Two adjacent reglued pieces at rim, including a tiny reglued sliver, measuring a total of 3". Otherwise excellent condition. H 10".
