Fine Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "B.C. MILBURN / ALEXA", Alexandria, VA origin, circa 1850, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and semi-squared rim, decorated around the body with two different alternating swag and hanging floral motifs. This jar is the first example of Milburn stoneware that we have seen decorated in this manner. Excellent size, maker, decoration, and condition. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a recently-surfaced GA collection. Excellent condition with minor in-the-firing chipping to base, most of which is glazed over. H 8 1/4".
