Extremely Rare Shenandoah Valley Three-Handled Redware Vase with Copper Glaze, Stamped "J. EBERLY & BRO. / STRASBURG, VA", circa 1890, ovoid form with tooled upper body, tall neck, and three applied handles, the surface dipped in a whitish slip, the neck covered in a streaky lead-and-copper glaze, the interior covered in a clear lead glaze over an orange ground. Traces of paint to body. Impressed with "J EBERLY & BRO. / STRASBURG, VA" maker's mark to midsection. Featuring a folky form with unusual glaze treatment, this vase is the only example in this style that we have seen from Strasburg's innovative Eberly pottery. Wear to rim and interior of collar. A minor fleck of glaze loss to collar's exterior. Wear to paint on body and handles. H 9".
