Rare Slip-Decorated Redware Presentation Shaving Mug, Inscribed "WHJ / 1828", American, 1828, ovoid mug with flared base and applied, wheel-thrown cup, the front featuring the yellow-slip inscription, "WHJ / 1828". A related redware pitcher, bearing the inscription "J+B / 1821", resides in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan, NY. Professionally-restored handle. Small chips and wear to rims of mug and applied cup. A minor base chip. H 4 3/8".
