Rare Large-Sized Stoneware Jar with Flowering Urn Decoration, Stamped "H.H ZIGLER / NEWVILLE, PA", circa 1852-1865, tapered jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and unusual, oversized lug handles. Decorated on the front and reverse with a large brushed design of a flowering plant emanating from a pedestal-based urn. Urn decoration on front of jar features a serrated edge, solid-cobalt body, and cross-hatched base. Urn decoration on reverse features a serrated, cross-hatched body, and solid-cobalt base. Among the finest examples of Zigler stoneware that we have ever offered. Very large reglued section descending from rim on right side of front, extending right, and continuing up reverse of jar to rim. The reglued section is colored along the crack and includes some touch-up to cobalt to edges of flowers on front as well as touch-up to cobalt extending through center of decoration on reverse.
