Five-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar, Stamped "DS", Daniel Seagle, Vale, NC, circa 1840, ovoid jar with applied lug handles and thin, semi-rounded rim, the surface covered in a green alkaline glaze. One handle impressed with the initials "DS", flanked by a pierced circle and a star, a lesser-seen maker's mark variant by Daniel Seagle. Opposite handle impressed with a five-gallon capacity mark. Losses to rim. Exfoliation to surface. Dryness to much of glaze.
