Rockingham-Glazed Herons-in-Bullrushes Covered Ale Pitcher, attributed to E. & W. Bennett, Baltimore, MD, circa 1869-1874, molded pitcher with elaborate relief decoration of standing herons surrounded by bullrushes. Oak branch motif above and twig handle with entwined snake. Perforated spout in the form of a goat's head. Includes original lid with branch motif and acorn finial. Surface covered in a streaky reddish-brown glaze over a cream-colored ground. Pitcher in rarely-found excellent condition with a minor flake to one heron wing and some minor in-the-firing chips to underside. Underside with traces of old white paint residue, unrelated to any sort of restoration. Lid in rarely-found excellent condition. H (including lid) 10 1/2".
