Eight-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "HAMILTON & / JONES / GREENSBORO. / PA.", circa 1875, large-sized, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, the front featuring Hamilton & Jones maker's stenciling incorporating stenciled vine motifs throughout. Decorated above with freehand stripes, vining, and two stylized flower blossoms. Base with ornately-stenciled "8" flanked by stenciled vines, above a freehand stripe. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Cracks throughout. A 3 1/4" area of rough, shallow chipping to interior of rim. A chip to interior of rim. Whitish residue around base. H 19 3/4".
