Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "H. HUMISTON / SOUTH AMBOY", NJ origin, circa 1830, highly-ovoid jar with applied lug handles and tooling to shoulder and rim, decorated with a brushed design of a wavy stem bearing three flower buds. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. A tight crack descending from one handle terminal, across underside, and up to terminal of opposite handle. Crude restoration to half of one handle.
