Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt 1832 Date, Stamped "EATON & STOUT", South River, NJ, 1832, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and applied lug handles, decorated with the brushed cobalt date, "1832", on one side and the impressed and cobalt-highlighted maker's mark, "EATON & STOUT" on the opposite side. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Some exfoliation to shoulder area on dated side. Some additional minor exfoliation under one handle as well as some light exfoliation to shoulder on opposite side. An approximately 5 1/2" crack from rim on dated side. Water glass staining to interior.
