Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Flying Bird Motif, Stenciled "HAMILTON & JONES. / GREENSBORO. PA.", circa 1875, ovoid jar with semi-squared rim, decorated with arched Hamilton & Jones maker's stenciling ending in scrolled flourishes, above a stenciled flying bird motif. Freehand stripes to shoulder and base. Base with stenciled "2" flanked by stenciled flourishes. Long, arching horizontal crack at base, continuing onto underside. An in-the-firing base chip. Jar is slightly out-of-round.
