Rare Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Profuse Stenciled Pinwheel and Freehand Stripe Decoration, Greensboro, PA origin, circa 1870, tapered jar with tooled shoulder and rounded "wax sealer" rim, the front heavily-decorated with three straight stripes, three wavy stripes, and a series of four stenciled pinwheels across the midsection. Unusual and elaborate decoration with an appealing combination of stenciled and freehand elements. Very nice condition. A small U-shaped surface line at base on reverse, not visible on interior. Several tiny chips to inner wax sealer rim. Some minor spots of wear to interior of rim. Other very minor flaws and some very faint traces of old green paint to surface. H 8 3/8".
