Exceedingly Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "E* PARR", Elisha Parr, Baltimore, MD, circa 1818-1829, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied tab handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a horizontal stem bearing tulips and graduated leaves. Impressed below rim on on one side with "E* PARR" maker's mark. One of less than ten examples of signed Elisha Parr stoneware known, this jar is potted and decorated in a style closely-related to the work of his brother, David. Provenance: Recently-discovered in Tennessee. As-made condition with two large, in-the-firing flakes to top of rim, measuring 2 1/4" and 1 3/4", as well as two in-the-firing base chips, each measuring 1".
