Unusual Squat-Shaped Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Drape Decoration, attributed to the Wilkes Street Pottery, Alexandria, VA, circa 1830, approximately three-quart to one-gallon, wide-bodied jar of highly-ovoid form, featuring a footed base, tooled shoulder, and rounded rim, decorated completely around the shoulder with a series of brushed cobalt drapes. Exceptional form. Provenance: Originally found in an 18th century carriage house in Marshall, VA. Excellent, essentially as-made condition.
