One-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Grapes Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA", circa 1865, cylindrical crock with applied lug handles and semi-squared rim, the front decorated with a brushed cluster of grapes hanging from a vine with two looping tendrils. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. Desirable size and decoration with excellent color. Provenance: From a recently-surfaced collection of Cowden & Wilcox stoneware. Professionally-restored top-to-bottom crack to right of decoration, continuing across underside, where it forms a mostly-restored network of cracks. One crack from this groiup extends 3 3/4" up side of crock. Small chips to interior of rim.
