One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "A.E. SMITH & SONS, / MANUFACTURERS, / 38 Peck Slip, N.Y.", circa 1855, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed floral motif featuring rose-shaped blossoms, unusual in this pottery's work. Provenance: From a recently-surfaced NC collection, purchased by the consignor decades ago. A crack across underside, which forms a spider crack to base area on reverse. Two chips to interior of rim. A minor, in-the-firing chip to underside at edge.
