Rare Salt-Glazed Stoneware Bottle, Stamped "SMITH & DAY MANUFACTURERS, / NORWALK, CON", mid 19th century, cylindrical form with sloped shoulder and tapered spout molding, the shoulder impressed with a "SMITH & DAY" maker's mark. Interior coated in an Albany slip glaze. Underside with stylized, hand-incised crosshatch design. The first signed bottle from this pottery that we have ever offered. Provenance: From a recently-surfaced NC collection, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 8".
