Cold-Painted Stoneware Spaniel Doorstop, Inscribed Robert West / 1901", Midwestern origin, circa 1901, molded figure of a seated spaniel on unusual stepped base, the surface covered in black paint with white-painted highlights to eyes, inscribed "Robert West / 1901" in white paint on reverse. Collar with traces of red-painted highlights. Underside reveals the spaniel is composed of a dense, vitrified reddish clay, possibly sewer tile. Base with some painted over chips and molding flaws along seam line. Otherwise excellent condition. H 9 1/2".
