Three-Gallon Open-Handled Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Decoration, Stamped "C. CROLIUS / MANUFACTURER / NEW-YORK", early 19th century, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, rounded rim, and applied loop handles, decorated with cloud-like brushwork surrounding the maker's mark of Clarkson Crolius, Sr. Reverse with series of six cobalt daubs to shoulder. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Jar has an in-the-firing raised area on underside, which keeps it from sitting perfectly flat. Front with recessed area to shoulder. A Y-shaped crack and diagonal crack to base area, which converge on underside. One handle with semi-circular separation line to terminal.
