Extremely Rare Cobalt-and-Manganese-Decorated Stoneware Figure of a Lion, attributed to Wallace and Cornwall Kirkpatrick, Anna, IL, circa 1880, molded figure of a reclining lion on rectangular base with stippled surface and relief leaf border. Manganese highlights to lion's mane. Heavy cobalt and manganese highlights to leaf border, creating a colorful blue and purple decoration. Outstanding form. Literature: For related examples, see Mathis, The Family, Kilns, & Stoneware of Kirkpatrick, p. 205, fig. 102. Minor base chips. Otherwise excellent condition. L 5 1/4" ; W 3 5/8" ; H 3 3/8".
