Exceptional Stoneware Canning Jar with Profuse Freehand Cobalt Decoration, Western PA origin, circa 1865, large-sized, tapered canning jar with tooled shoulder and rounded "wax sealer" rim, the front heavily-decorated with an unusual inverted drape motif, underscored by four swags, along with four freehand stripes above and two stripes below. A visually-stunning example of a desirable Western Pennsylvania form. Excellent condition with very minor wear to inner wax sealer rim. H 9 1/4".
