Fine and Scarce Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Pinwheel Decoration, Stamped "T. HARRINGTON / LYONS", NY State origin, circa 1860, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim molding, and applied lug handles, decorated with large, boldly-brushed foliate design in the form of a pinwheel with circle at the center. Brushed cobalt 3's to shoulder. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. Excellent color and decoration, stylistically-related to Harrington's iconic star face design. A 6" Y-shaped crack on underside, continuing 5" up side of jar. Heavy wear and shallow chipping around inner rim for lid.
