One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Milkpan with Cobalt Swag Decoration, Stamped "J. KEISTER & CO. / STRASBURG, VA", circa 1870, tapered pan with tooled shoulder, squared rim, pouring spout, and applied lug handles, decorated around the shoulder with a series of graduated swags. Impressed with Jeremiah Keister maker's mark under one handle. Chips and wear to rim. A small piece of adhered clay to handle and touching the beginning of the maker's mark. Chipping to one handle and minor chipping to opposite handle. An in-the-firing Y-shaped surface crack to underside, continuing onto base area.
