Rare Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Fruit Jar, Stamped "QUINCES" and "C. CROLIUS / MANUFACTURER MANHATTAN-WELLS / NEW-YORK.", early 19th century, ovoid jar with semi-squared rim, decorated on one side with the impressed and cobalt-highlighted word, "QUINCES", surrounded by drape-like brushwork. Reverse impressed with cobalt-highlighted Clarkson Crolius, Sr. maker's mark, surrounded by additional drape-like brushwork. Provenance: Property of a New York State collector. A rim chip and a few shallow base chips. H 10 1/2".
