Three-Quart Stoneware Jug with Incised Floral Decoration, Manhattan, NY origin, circa 1800, ovoid jug with footed base and heavily-tooled spout, decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted floral design featuring an open-center bud. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Excellent color. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a fifty-year private collection. Heavy chipping to base. A 1 1/2" flake to underside at edge. A 4 1/2" x 4" spot of staining on one side. Some firing flaws to surface, typical of pieces of this age and origin. H 11 1/2".
