Fine Six-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BURGER / ROCHESTER", New York State origin, circa 1860, large-sized, cylindrical crock with semi-squared rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a large, artistically slip-trailed design of a flowering plant. Excellent detail throughout, including crosshatching to petals of one blossom, spots to center of other blossom, and detailed shading to leaves and remaining petals. Slip-trailed "6" to shoulder. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a long-term private collection. Significant restoration to surface, including restoration to a few areas of cobalt. A small chip on interior of rim. H 14 3/8".
