Five-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "HAMILTON & JONES / GREENSBORO, PA", circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with freehand stripes and vining above Hamilton & Jones maker's stenciling, various stenciled flourishes, and a freehand "5" flanked by dashes. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A painted, inverted J-shaped crack, descending from rim and curving just below the right handle. One handle chip. A thin 5 3/4" crack on underside, extending 2 1/2" up base on front.
