Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to R.J. Grier, Chester County, PA, circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a brushed floral motif. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals, with an additional wavy line of cobalt underneath each handle. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a long-term private collection. A glazed-over rim chip. A 7/8" chip to one handle and a minor handle chip to opposite handle.
