One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Incised Floral Decoration, Manhattan, NY origin, circa 1800, ovoid jug with footed base and heavily-tooled spout, decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted design of a flower with rounded leaves and three-petaled blossom. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a fifty-year private collection. Base chips. Some tight surface lines, probably in-the-firing, typical of pieces of this age and origin. A minor chip to top of spout. A small area of light surface wear to reverse. H 12".
