Rare Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Pitcher, Stamped "C. CROLIUS / MANUFACTURER / MANHATTAN-WELLS / NEW-YORK", circa 1810, ovoid pitcher with flared base and tooled collar, decorated on each side with a brushed cobalt drape motif. Impressed on the front with the large cobalt-highlighted maker's mark, "C. CROLIUS / MANUFACTURER / MANHATTAN-WELLS / NEW-YORK". Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Relatively few cobalt-decorated pitchers from the Clarkson Crolius, Sr. Pottery are known. Base chips. Some surface flakes, primarily near base. Additional surface flakes to handle and on underside. Heavy flaking to interior. Two rim chips and a minor rim nick. A small spout chip. A large tight spider crack on reverse. H 14".
