Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. FENTON", Dorset, Vermont origin, circa 1805, ovoid jug with footed base and heavily-tooled shoulder, including a band of coggled columns running the maker's mark. Front decorated with a brushed cobalt flower. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. In-the-firing contact marks to surface, which include two surface chips to reverse. Staining to surface. A small base chip. Some in-the-firing crazing to shoulder and handle.
