Two-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar, Stamped "JG", John Goodman, Lincoln County, NC origin, circa 1880, ovoid jar with thin lug handles and semi-rounded rim, the surface covered in a mottled green alkaline glaze, ranging from dark-olive on the front upper half to pale-green on the bottom half, sides, and reverse. Shoulder impressed "JG" above a "2". Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, recently found in North Carolina. Heavy chipping to one handle. A shallow chip and some wear to opposite handle. Three rim chips, the longest measuring 1 3/8".
