Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Deer Decoration, Stamped "EDMANDS & CO.", Charlestown, MA origin, circa 1860, ovoid jar with cylindrical collar, flattened rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a folky slip-trailed design of a deer with turned head and spotted body, reclining behind a split-rail fence between two trees. A classic Edmands motif, covering much of the jar's front. Provenance: David Musser Collection. A 1 1/8" chip to right side of rim. A tiny surface flake to top of rim. A faint 3" surface line to front at base. A minor chip to left handle. Some light wear or bubbling to cobalt. H 10 3/4".
