Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Inkwell, Stamped "C. CROLIUS / STONEWARE MANUFACTURER / Manhattan-Wells, / NEW-YORK", early 19th century, cylindrical inkwell with central ink reservoir surrounded by three quill holes, the upper edge highlighted in brushed cobalt slip, the side impressed with an oval maker's mark of Clarkson Crolius, Sr. Provenance: Robert Meltzer Collection. Very nice condition with three small base chips, a minor pre-firing chip to rim, which is brushed over with cobalt slip, and two other minor rim nicks, both possibly in-the-firing. H 1 1/2" ; Diameter 3 1/2".
