Fine Copper-Glazed Redware Plate with Sgraffito Eagle Decoration, attributed to Jacob Medinger, Limerick Township, Montgomery County, PA, early 20th century, with coggled edge, the interior decorated with sgraffito design of a Federal eagle with shield, holding a banner in its beak and flowers in its talons. Elaborate star decoration above. Incised line design to interior shoulder. Surface covered in a beautiful green copper glaze over a slip-coated ground. Underside with old crayon inscription, "Mettinger (sic) plate". Exceptional color. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a Pennsylvania collection amassed during the mid 20th century. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. Diameter 7 7/8".
