Large-Sized Open-Handled Stoneware Jar with Alkaline Glaze, Washington County, GA origin, circa 1840-1870, ovoid jar with tapered rim molding and open strap handles, the surface covered in a mottled olive and brown alkaline glaze. Although this jar appears to have an incised "4" under one handle, its capacity is likely larger. Provenance: Dr. Raymond L. Owen Collection. Very nice condition. A 1 1/2" line at base, continuing 1 3/4" onto underside. Some wear to rim molding. Some light wear to surface. H 18".
