Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Drape Decoration, Manhattan, NY origin, early 19th century, ovoid jar with footed base, heavily-tooled shoulder, and open loop handles, decorated on the front and reverse with two different dotted drape motifs. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Heavy chipping to base and interior of rim. Some exfoliation to bottom half of jar. An in-the-firing contact mark / chipped area on one side. A glazed-over iron ping under one handle. Some faint lines to bottom half of the jar. Exfoliation to interior.
