One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to William Nichols, Poughkeepsie, NY, circa 1823, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and applied lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a distinctive foliate motif featuring a foliate spray emanating from graduated looping lines. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Very nice condition. A minor base chip. Some fry to cobalt on one side. A glazed-over dent to one handle. A few in-the-firing iron pings to surface.
