Two-Gallon Lidded Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Foliate Decoration, Stamped "HARRINGTON & BURGER / ROCHESTER", New York State origin, circa 1852-1854, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a three leaves conjoined at the stem, accented with looping vines. Heavy shading to outer leaves. Central leaf inscribed "2.". Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Includes a salt-glazed stoneware lid, impressed "2". A 1 1/8" loss to one handle. A very minor, faint 1" Y-shaped line to shoulder area on reverse, probably in-the-firing and not visible on the interior. Two chips to interior of rim. Some small areas of wear to inner rim for lid. Chips to edge of lid and losses to knob.
